Induction is the first phase of a continuing process carried through into our probationary procedures and planning, review and appraisal schemes. Each programme is personalised, and may include a designated mentor - beginning before you join us. It covers an introduction to:
The job.
The local working environment.
University of the Arts London as a whole.
The wider Higher Education environment and the communities we serve.
During your first 12 months, you'll have regular meetings with your line manager, enabling progress to be monitored and offering opportunities for two-way feedback. Once your employment has been confirmed, the planning, review and appraisal cycle provides a structure for building your relationship with us and identifying your further development needs.

Over the last four years, the University has increased the priority given to staff development and has identified specific resources for University-wide activities. In addition each College and service is responsible for identifying specific funds for staff development and training. This commitment is published in the Staff Development Policy, which aims to:
Continuously enhance the student experience by improving the quality of teaching and learning and curriculum design.
Ensure that staff maintain a position at the forefront of their subject specialism as teachers and practitioners by supporting creative and scholarly activity and professional development.
Provide all staff with the relevant knowledge and skills to be effective in their roles, and to meet their legal and contractual obligations.
