Equal opportunities policy
This policy sets out the University's commitment to celebrate diversity, eliminate unfair discrimination, provide equality of opportunity, promote good race relations, and create a supportive environment for students, staff, governors and others with whom we work. It is only by working in these ways that we will achieve our aims and objectives.
This policy was revised in May 2002 to meet the requirements of the Race Relations Act as amended in 2000.
|
Principles
We will eliminate discrimination on grounds of gender, race, disability, class, creed, nationality, marital status, sexual orientation and age.
We will fulfil all our statutory duties.
We will regularly monitor student and staff profiles, and publish the results.
We will benchmark our performance against the best.
We will make public our student and staff action plans that promote awareness, make improvements to the ways we work, and set and monitor targets to increase the presence of those traditionally under-represented.
|
We will energetically communicate, promote, and assess the impact of our policy and action plans.
Governors, staff and students all have personal responsibilities to ensure that the policy is upheld, and that it is at the centre of the University's life.
The student experience
Students will have an educational experience which is positive and inclusive, from application to employment outcome.
