Jude Freeman
Head of College
Camberwell College of Arts
I was always professionally aware of University of the Arts London and the constituent colleges. It has a massive sphere of influence and offers an unmatched breadth and range of activities. While big is not always beautiful the facilities and attendant attitudes offer untold opportunities. I expected a talented group of staff and students and that's what I found when I arrived earlier this year.
As Head of the School of Design at the University of Brighton and before that Principal of Herefordshire College of Art & Design, I was always interested in specialist education. I was joining a specialist University with a distinct past and one that presented the opportunity to contribute to an exciting future.

It's vibrant and dynamic, and the pace is very stimulating. I'm still finding things out - it's an interesting place in many ways from the work to the buildings - it's just fascinating. It is definitely a centre of excellence, a rich source of creativity and artistic excellence and the richness of the work is superb.
On another level, moving to Camberwell has also been a bonus - getting to know the area and the locals. There are a lot of artists in the community and there is huge potential for improving community relationships. We have lots of contact with 'outside' people and we have the opportunity to use the arts for everyone's benefit.
