Marketing Manager
Camberwell College of Arts

I've always been involved in visual arts, I worked for the ICA and the RSC and to be honest I wouldn't necessarily want to work in Higher Education unless it was in some way attached to the arts. Having said that, I do of course believe in the importance of education on the social agenda.

Things do happen at a different pace to a more commercial organisation, so it has required different skills and has brought those skills to the fore. Working within the remit is both frustrating and fascinating but having said that, you get a lot of freedom in the working environment, you also get a lot of support both personal and professional. Personal development is very good.

And unlike many 'elitist' operations, University of the Arts London is not complacent - there is real willingness to add value to the community. It is definitely a particular type of environment - a collection of very different people creating a unique sub-culture - it's not so much easy-going but it does capture a different spirit.

There's a great deal of knowledge to tap into, and there are always new challenges. It's an exciting place because of the way it is changing - both in developing marketing strategies and in development as a University. Plus working here allows a lot of interpersonal contact and it is interesting because there are thousands of students all with amazing stories.
