Benefits, terms and conditions for technical, learning resources, administrative and clerical staff
The post
Although appointed to a specific post and location in the first instance, staff may be required to undertake appropriate duties at any location within the University. Appointment is subject to pre-employment health assessment by the University's Occupational Physician and completion of a one-year probationary period. Following this, staff are required to participate in the University's appraisal scheme.
Salary
Salaries are paid on the last day of the month directly into bank or building society accounts. Salaries and London Weighting are negotiated nationally. They are reviewed every year and, any percentage increase agreed is applied to the salary scale. Providing staff have been in post for 6 months, incremental progression takes place until the maximum of the grade is reached or until an individual becomes eligible for progression or extension through the bar.

Hours of work
The standard working week is 35 hours for full time staff. Start and finish times are agreed by line managers, but staff are expected to work flexibly where needed. Overtime payments are not made except in exceptional circumstances. Time off in lieu is usually given to staff when they have had to specifically work hours in excess of the standard. Term-time staff work 38 weeks of the year. Their salaries are paid in 12 monthly installments and include entitlement to annual leave.
Holidays
Full-time staff receive 25 days annual leave, rising to 27 days after 5 years service. (Pro-rata for part-time staff.) Staff are also entitled to Bank Holidays and any time when the University may be officially closed e.g. between Christmas Day and the New Year Bank Holiday.

Job sharing and flexible working
University of the Arts London is open to job sharing where practical. If interested in job sharing, a letter detailing the request should be attached to your application. Similarly, flexible work patterns will be considered depending on the post - if short-listed, advise the recruiting manager of your requirements so that possibilities can be discussed.
Sickness, maternity and paternity
University of the Arts London operates its own contractual schemes above those provided by statute.

Special leave
Staff may be granted limited paid or unpaid leave under special circumstances, such as the funeral of a close relative or approved study for examinations.
Pension
All employees (except casual staff) are automatically entered into the Local Government Pension Scheme from which they can "opt out". Both employee and employer make contributions to the Fund.

Nursery
A 30 place nursery (for babies and children of staff and students) is located at the Elephant and Castle site of the London College of Communication.
Season ticket and computer loans
Interest-free loans may be made available for purchasing season tickets and/or computer equipment related to their role.

Reduced-rate sports and leisure facilities
University of the Arts London is a member of the Seymour Leisure Centre (in Seymour Place, W1) and staff benefit from reduced rates on facilities such as swimming, badminton, squash and use of the health suite plus priority booking arrangements. (Facilities are also available at the Porchester Centre, Queensway, W2, Queen Mother Sports Centre, Victoria, SW1 and the Jubilee Sports Centre, W10.)
Identity cards
All staff are required to carry identity cards and are generally asked to provide photographs so that a card can be issued.

University of the Arts London has adopted a "No Smoking Policy" throughout all its buildings.
Relocation Assistance Scheme
University of the Arts London has a Scheme for newly appointed staff, generally limited to those who on appointment live outside a 50 mile radius of London and who wish to move significantly nearer their place of work.
